School Board Meeting for Sept is on Sept 26

SCURRY- ROSSER ISD ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE.  THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 11.5% AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $130.

HOWEVER, THE TAX RATE FOR DEBT PAYMENTS HAS BEEN REDUCED BY 24% AND WILL REDUCE TAXES BY APPROXIMATELY $50 DOLLARS. THE OVERALL IMPACT IS AN $80 INCREASE IN TAXES ON A $100,000 HOME. LAST YEAR THE OVERALL TAX RATE WAS $1.25 AND THE NEW ADOPTED RATE WOULD BE $1.33. THIS IS AN 8 CENT OVERALL INCREASE IN TAXES.

BY ADOPTING THIS NEW RATE AN ESTIMATED $200,000 DOLLARS WOULD BE COLLECTED LOCALLY. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE STATE WILL CONTRIBUTE APPROXIMATELY $526,000 DOLLARS. FOR EVERY $1 DOLLAR COLLECTED FROM LOCAL TAXPAYERS THE STATE WILL PROVIDE $2 DOLLARS AND .50 CENTS.  WITHOUT THE INCREASE IN LOCAL TAXES THE STATE DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL REVENUE.
